A proper lighting plan is very important for home. All the rooms including the bathroom should be well lit. But, many people tend to neglect such areas as not much of the time is spent there. But it is very important to light up a bathroom properly specially for safety reasons and a well lit places is always a more pleasant one.
If the design of your bathroom lets in a lot of natural light, you need only consider lighting arrangements for after-dark hours. In other cases, you may have to use a combination of natural and artificial light sources, to light up your bathroom. You can find a wide range in halogen and standard incandescent lights in the market. Go for the ones that are nice and bright and as close as possible to natural sunlight.

Just keep in mind that you need incandescent dimmers for incandescent and halogen lights and compatible dimmers for any other types of lights.

Ambient lighting covers the overall bathroom space. You can have a centrally fitted light ” a chandelier, for example, if you want to go for an extravagant and creative effect or several bright lights fitted all along the walls. Recessed lights are also a good option for bathrooms.
Accent lighting is used to highlight special features of an area. Like in a bathroom, you can use them for drawing special attention to things like an ornate mirror or an artwork or a decorative wash-basin or beautiful tiling.
Task lights are for letting you perform the task comfortably. A bathroom is used for grooming, applying make up etc. So, place the task lights on the either sides of the mirror so that the shadow effect is minimized and you can complete the job without straining your eyes.
